Computed Tomographic findings of Cerebral Cystic Astrocytoma

Abstract
Astrocytoma is relatively frequent intracranial tumor, as repored 5£¥ of all brain tumor and about 30£¥ of all glioma.
In astrocytoma, gross or microscopical cyst is found occasionally.
Though cystic astrocytomas have been found largely in cerebellum, cerbral lesions were sporadically reported.
Authors analysed CT findings of cerebral cystic astrocytoma in 12 patients, who took CT and confirmed by histologically, from may 1979 to December 1983.
The results were as follows;
1. Of all 12 cases, round shaped were 11 and septated in 1.
2. Located largely at temporal lobe and others at parietal.
3. All mass lesions were single and large(more than 32§®).
4. Density of cysts were estimated about 11 H.U.
5. In precontrast scan, cyst wall were visualized in many cases (10 of 12), had thin and regular thickness, and calcifications found near its wall occastionally. And in postcontrast scan, cyst wall were enhanced homogeneously.
6. Mural nodules were not detected in precontrast scan, but homogeneously enhanced after postcontrast scan in 7 cases.
7. Surrounding edema and abstructive hydrocephalus were found in 3 and 5 cases, respectively.
